Qing Style Painted Wood Lidded Basket - 15 x 8.5 x 14 inches. This lidded rectangular basket is constructed from joined wooden boards with a fixed central vertical handle and a horizontal grip. The exterior is finished with a matte black pigment, while the interior and base are left as natural wood. The body tapers slightly toward the underside. The construction is reinforced with visible small nails at the joints. The lidded top is inset and removable. The exterior surfaces are decorated with hand-painted polychrome folk-art motifs. Each long side features two clusters of orange and red flowers with green leaves and buds. One end panel depicts a boy in traditional dress holding cymbals within a fan-shaped border, while the opposite end panel depicts a bird on a flowering branch within a similar fan border. The lid is decorated with four pomegranates. No maker marks, signatures, or inscriptions are present on the exterior, interior, or base.
