Reverse Painted Glass and Foil Game Board - 21 x 21 inches. Reverse-painted glass. This is a square, handmade decorative game board designed for chess or checkers, mounted in a wooden frame. The playing surface is constructed using a reverse-applied technique on a glass substrate. The light squares are composed of a silver-colored foil or crushed tinsel ground inlaid with irregular fragments of iridescent material, likely abalone or mother-of-pearl. The dark squares and the outer field are finished in solid black. A red pinstripe border defines the 8x8 grid of the playing area. Each of the four corners of the black outer field features a decorative four-pointed star motif, executed with the same iridescent inlay technique as the light squares. The board is housed in a mitered oak frame characterized by a prominent open grain. The assembly is secured at the reverse by a wooden panel fastened with eight flathead screws. No maker marks, signatures, or labels are present on the frame or the playing surface.
