Durkee Marine Brass & Copper Lantern - 16 inches tall. A large maritime navigation signal lantern of brass and copper construction featuring a red glass Fresnel lens. The cylindrical body is protected by a four-bar vertical and three-bar horizontal metal cage. The top of the lantern is fitted with a fixed copper dome and a heavy-duty arched handle. An embossed circular brass plate on the top dome is inscribed DURKEE MARINE PRODUCTS CORP. STATEN ISLAND N.Y. in a circular format. The red glass Fresnel lens bears a vertical embossed mark reading DURKEE MARINE PRO. The base is flared and secured with hexagonal nuts at the foot of each cage bar. This vessel has been previously electrified for domestic use and is fitted with a brown cord, a Leviton inline thumb-switch, and a standard two-prong plug. Accompanied by a handwritten note providing historical context on the maker.
