A.B. Wheeler & Co. Salt Glazed Jug - 11.5 inches tall. An American salt-glazed stoneware jug featuring a classic ovoid form and a single loop handle. The body is constructed with a rounded, sloping shoulder and a narrow neck, exhibiting a traditional salt-glazed texture known as an orange peel finish. The vessel is decorated on the front with a hand-painted cobalt blue slip design in a stylized floral or bee-sting motif. Additional cobalt blue dabs are located near the terminal of the handle. An impressed mark on the upper shoulder is highlighted with a cobalt wash and reads A. B. Wheeler & Co. on the first line and Boston Mass. on the second line. The neck is fitted with a cork stopper. The base is flat and unglazed.
