Samuel Lee Carbon Steel Butcher Cleaver - This butcher's cleaver features a heavy, rectangular carbon steel blade with a characteristic hanging hole positioned at the upper corner of the toe. The blade is constructed with a slightly curved spine and is secured to a dark-stained hardwood handle via a metal ferrule and two visible pins. Stamped into one face of the blade is an oval mark containing the text SAMUEL LEE, J.F & C, and AUG. 2. 1886. Below this oval, the number 10 is impressed into the steel. The reverse side of the blade bears the stamped alphanumeric sequence E O 1 5 3 4 4. The steel displays a dark, oxidized patina with surface pitting and textural irregularities consistent with industrial use.Measurements/notes: 16 in. L; approximately 4 in. H.
