Bidspirit auction | Carved Coconut Husk Monkey Figurine

Carved Coconut Husk Monkey Figurine - A folk art figurine hand-carved from a single coconut husk to represent a monkey or orangutan. The design utilizes the natural textures of the fruit; the pointed, unpeeled apex of the husk forms a conical head covering, while long, fibrous coir originates from underneath the top to create a mane or head of hair. The face is carved into the smoother inner husk material, featuring two large circular white eyes made of wood or plastic, joined by a single bent metal wire representing an eyebrow. The nose is carved in relief, and the mouth is painted red. The torso shows further carving with four parallel horizontal lines on each side, suggesting ribs or fingers. The base of the figure is finished with a semi-circular wooden or husk element painted with a white upper band and a blue lower band.Measurements/notes: 6 in. L x 11 in. H.
