Bidspirit auction | Hand Carved Wood Anthropomorphic Mask

Hand Carved Wood Anthropomorphic Mask - A hand-carved wooden anthropomorphic face mask, likely of African origin, featuring a rounded facial structure with prominent, stylized features. The mask is carved from a single block of wood, displaying a dark brown stain across the majority of the surface. A lighter, natural wood tone is visible on the proper left side (photo 2), indicating where the stain was not applied or has been removed. The cranium and chin are decorated with a repetitive, hand-carved scale-like or cross-hatched pattern to simulate hair or decorative scarification. The face is characterized by high, arched brows over circular eye cutouts, a broad, flattened nose, and a wide mouth carved in an open position. No maker's marks, signatures, or country-of-origin stamps are visible on the object.Measurements/notes: 11 in. L x 13 in. H.
