Brass Hilt Short Sword Bayonet - This sidearm features a single-edged, slightly curved steel blade and a brass hilt. The brass hilt is constructed with a ribbed, cylindrical grip and an integrated D-shaped knuckle guard that connects to a straight crossguard. The pommel end of the hilt is characterized by a deep longitudinal slot and a circular hole, designed for socket mounting as a sword bayonet. The blade terminates in a spear point. The metal of the hilt appears to be cast brass with a dark aged patina. The blade is forged steel and exhibits a taper from the hilt to the point. Incised vertically into the brass at the pommel end is a series of characters; the digits 3, 3, and 2 are legible, followed by a mark that is not legible as a character.Measurements/notes: 26.5 in. L.
