Bidspirit auction | Set 4 Hand-Carved Wood Wall

Set 4 Hand-Carved Wood Wall Masks - A collection of four hand-carved wooden wall masks featuring diverse decorative styles and finishes. The group includes a tall mask with a blackened face, featuring beaded polychrome accents in red, white, yellow, and blue, set against an off-white textured backing. A large dark wood mask displays etched vertical grain-like patterns with painted geometric and faunal motifs on the forehead, including depictions of birds within triangular and semicircular borders. An oval-shaped mask features intricate all-over geometric and scrollwork carvings in relief against a natural wood tone. The fourth mask is finished in a warm yellowish-brown stain with closed eyes, a broad nose, and a floral-painted crown in red and green. The reverse sides vary in construction: one mask shows a light natural wood finish with a carved hanging slot (photo 7); another is stained black with a small metal eyelet for hanging (photo 7); a third features a dark brown stain with a wire loop (photo 7); and the beaded mask has a roughly finished brown wood interior with a metal hanging loop (photo 7). No maker's marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the front or reverse of the pieces.Measurements/notes: 11 carvings; largest 19.5 in. L.
