Peter Schuyler & Middleton Cigar - This group lot features a variety of early to mid-20th-century commercial advertising containers and tobacco-related paper ephemera. The collection includes a clear glass storage jar with a metallic screw-top lid, the exterior of which is covered in a decoupage of cigar bands. The jar contains a significant quantity of loose, overlapping cigar bands. Visible and readable text on these bands includes Peter Schuyler Albany, N.Y., El Roi-Tan, El Verso Lima, O. U.S.A. Wemmer Co., La Flor de Carvalho, Fulweiler, and Antonio. The lot contains three metal advertising tins. A tall cylindrical tin is lithographed for John Middleton Inc. pipe tobacco, featuring a red oval logo with a pipe graphic and the text Middleton's cherry BLEND. A flat-sided red tin with a screw-top cap is labeled STANLEY'S CROW REPELLENT SAVES REPLANTING and indicates the contents were used to protect seed corn from birds. A small rectangular hinged-lid tin for Packer's Tar Soap features a lithographed lid with the text PACKER'S TAR SOAP THE PACKER MFG. CO. INC. NEW YORK U.S.A. along with pine tree and flag imagery. Additional items include loose lithographed paper labels. One large label is titled PORTO RICO and displays a multicolored royal crest with a crown. Another partial label titled THE MINER'S BOUQUET shows Shriners iconography, including a red fez, a scimitar, and a crescent moon with a star and a pharaoh's head.
