Early American Black Ladder Back Rocker - A side rocking chair featuring a black painted wooden frame and a hand-woven rush seat. The backrest is composed of two contoured horizontal slats set between two tall, turned upright posts that terminate in acorn-style finials. The chair is designed without arms and rests on two arched wooden rockers. The support structure consists of turned front legs and tapered rear legs, reinforced by two tiers of turned stretchers. The seat is constructed of natural fiber or rush woven in a traditional four-triangle pattern. A small white rectangular adhesive label is affixed to the front of the upper back slat, bearing the handwritten word Rocker over the number 48- in black ink. No manufacturer stamps, marks, or signatures are legible on the piece.
