13 Natural History Shells & Fossils - A collection of thirteen natural history specimens comprising marine life, mineralized fossils, and polished gemstones. The primary piece is a large abalone shell of the genus Haliotis, featuring a highly iridescent nacreous interior and exterior with vibrant hues of green, blue, pink, and silver. The shell exterior displays characteristic respiratory pores and natural calcification. The fossil specimens include one polished Petoskey stone (Hexagonaria percarinata) from the Devonian period, exhibiting a distinct hexagonal colonial coral pattern, and a second polished fossil coral specimen with a vibrant red coloration attributed to iron oxide mineralization. The lapidary group contains five banded agates: two thin, polished slices featuring fine straight and concentric banding in white, grey, and orange, and three polished agate nodules. The mineral assortment includes a polished Unakite specimen composed of green epidote and pink orthoclase feldspar, one orbicular jasper with green, red, and yellow inclusions, a yellow jasper with linear wood-grain patterns, and a reddish-brown jasper with white veining. The collection is completed by a single dark brown spherical concretion. Most mineral and fossil specimens have been professionally polished to a high luster. Individual specimens range in size from approximately 0.75 inches to 4.75 inches. According to the ruler in photo 8, the abalone shell measures approximately 4.75 inches in length. The total width of the arrangement as photographed is approximately 7.5 inches.
