Bidspirit auction | Mexican Folk Art Mariachi Figurine
Mexican Folk Art Mariachi Figurine Set - A set of four cast composition figurines depicting a mariachi-style band in a whimsical, rotund folk art aesthetic. Each figure features a spherical body dressed in traditional Mexican charro-inspired attire, consisting of a black sombrero, a grey shirt, a black bolero jacket with gold-painted trim, and black boots fitted with silver-tone spurs. The collection includes musicians playing a saxophone, a large bass drum, a woodwind instrument resembling a clarinet, and a pair of cymbals. The figures are hand-painted with metallic gold-tone highlights on the instruments, jacket buttons, and trim. The drummer figure bears a small, hand-painted black mark on the upper left arm that appears to be a stylized capital letter R (photo 6). The mark is not legible as a specific maker's name. The undersides of the figures have a coarse, pebbled black texture and are devoid of any impressed or printed maker's marks, factory stamps, or labels (photos 10 and 11). Casting seams from the manufacturing process are visible on the sides of the figures. Total width: 13 inches Individual height: 4 inches.
