The piece is constructed from a solid block of glass with a polished flat front face and a textured, frosted back that mimics the appearance of natural ice or a cavern wall. The figures are executed using a deep intaglio carving technique on the reverse surface, which creates a multi-dimensional perspective when viewed from the front. The sculpture stands on an integral polished base. A cursive signature reading Tompkins is incised into the glass base beneath the feet of the child figure. Height: 7.5 inches.
