Pair Balboa & Dundee Japanese Lighters - This lot consists of two Japanese chrome-plated pocket lighters featuring regional lithographed advertising for Columbus, Ohio-based businesses. The first lighter, manufactured for the Sohio (Standard Oil of Ohio) brand, features a multi-color graphic panel on the front depicting a service station with a yellow late-1950s sedan at the pumps, accompanied by text reading STANDARD OIL PRODUCTS and CROOKS & HOCTER. The reverse side displays the Sohio red diamond logo in a blue oval with advertising text for the service station at 5TH AVE. & SUMMIT ST. COLUMBUS 1, OHIO and the alphanumeric phone exchange AX. 9-0314. The base bears a stamped mark reading JAPAN WELLINGTON BALBOA, and the thumb lever is stamped BALBOA. The second lighter features advertising for the Columbus-based Dean and Barry Paint company. The front graphic shows a painter in white overalls standing on a scaffold next to a bucket labeled DEAN AND BARRY PAINT. The reverse side is a green panel with a center brass-toned plaque featuring the slogan makes your home look like a million. The base bears a stamped mark reading dundee AUTOMATIC SUPER-LIGHTER JAPAN. Each lighter measures approximately 2.25 inches (W) by 1.75 inches (H).
