10 Vtg Litho Metal Tobacco & Med Tins - This is a collection of 10 vintage lithographed metal advertising tins consisting of humidor-style canisters and pocket-sized containers. The group features various early to mid-20th-century American brands for pipe tobacco and a medicinal product. One large humidor-style canister features the Granger brand. It is finished with a black ground and gold-tone lithographed text and graphics. The front is printed with GRANGER ROUGH CUT PIPE TOBACCO. At the base of the front panel, a printed mark reads LIGGETT & MYERS TOBACCO CO. / REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. / MADE IN U.S.A. The reverse of the tin includes a graphic of a pointer dog with the headline A POINTER ON TOBACCO and descriptive text regarding Wellman?s Method. A pair of large cylindrical humidor-style tins are present for Briggs Pipe Mixture. These brown lithographed tins feature a graphic of a hand holding a smoking pipe and the slogan WHEN A FELLER NEEDS A FRIEND. The lever-opening lids bear printed and embossed text reading KEEP LID PRESSED DOWN TIGHT and providing opening instructions including LIFT LEVER GENTLY TO LOOSEN LID, THEN SLIDE LEVER AROUND AN INCH AND LIFT AGAIN. A group of six pocket-sized tobacco tins features the Prince Albert brand. These rectangular tins with hinged lids are finished in red with a central oval portrait of a man in a frock coat. The front text reads PRINCE ALBERT CRIMP CUT LONG BURNING PIPE AND CIGARETTE TOBACCO. The reverse side of the tins bears a printed process patent date of JULY 30TH 1907 and identifies the maker as R.J. REYNOLDS TOBACCO COMPANY WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., U.S.A. A single pocket-sized medicinal tin is included for NR Tablets. The tin features a red and black ground with text reading NR TABLETS and ACTS ON THE STOMACH, LIVER, KIDNEYS AND BOWELS. A printed mark at the base of the front panel identifies the manufacturer as THE A. H. LEWIS MEDICINE CO. ST. LOUIS, U. S. A. Dimensions: gangster tin 6 in tall x 5 in diameter.
