Pair Japanese Metal Elephant Lighters - This lot consists of two vintage cast-metal table lighters modeled as elephants with trunks raised. The first figure is finished in a silver-toned plating and features a lighter mechanism recessed into the back, equipped with a flip-top cover and horizontal ventilation slits. The underside of the belly is impressed with a diamond-shaped cartouche containing the characters I, H, and T, and the text MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN is impressed below it (photo 5). The second figure has a brass-toned finish and features a decorative saddle cloth. A hinged spherical lid on the back opens to reveal a flint-wheel and wick mechanism (photo 7). The underside of this figure is impressed with the text MADE IN JAPAN (photo 9).
