Bidspirit auction | A Collection of WWII US

A Collection of WWII US Army Airborne and US Navy Identified Ephemera and Insignia - This collection consists of original World War II military artifacts associated with Corporal Michael F. Susko of the 464th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion. The lot includes an original V-Mail holiday greeting form dated December 15, 1943. The document was sent by Ensign John Billie from the USS SC 741, a submarine chaser, to Corporal Susko while he was stationed at Camp Mackall, North Carolina. The V-Mail features a printed holiday cartoon of a sailor scouting from a palm tree. The included insignia features a machine-embroidered 101st Airborne Division shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI) depicting the Screaming Eagle on a black shield, paired with a matching yellow-on-black embroidered Airborne tab. The 101st Airborne SSI displays the white-back thread construction characteristic of United States manufacture during the World War II era. Also present is a parachute wing background oval constructed of red felt with a gold-yellow embroidered border, which is the branch-specific designation for Parachute Field Artillery units, corresponding to the recipient's unit listed on the V-Mail.
