Handmade Patchwork Scrap Quilt w/ Floral Backing - 58 x 88 A mid-to-late 20th-century handmade patchwork quilt featuring a central vertical panel of square fabric blocks. The design is constructed from a diverse assortment of scrap fabrics, including cotton and synthetic blends. The patterns present within the patchwork include gingham, stripes, paisley, and a novelty print featuring red strawberries and hearts, interspersed with solid blocks of orange, turquoise, and yellow. The central decorative column is flanked by two wide, cream-colored side borders. The top and bottom edges are finished with narrow borders of purple fabric decorated with a dark floral sprig motif, which also serves as the reverse panel for the entire piece. The quilt is machine-quilted with horizontal channel stitching. The fabric types and prints, notably the textured synthetic knits and novelty patterns, are characteristic of the 1960s through the 1980s.
