Late 19th C. American Stenciled Boston Rocker - This rocking chair is an example of the American Boston style featuring hand-stenciled and painted polychrome decoration. Constructed from mixed hardwoods with a dark-stained finish, the chair features a high back with a scrolled crest rail and a central vertical splat flanked by six spindles. The down-swept arms are supported by three spindles each and connect to a seat frame with a woven cane insert. The understructure consists of turned legs joined by a box stretcher, mounted on wooden rockers. Ornamental details include floral motifs in red and green, along with black-inked scrollwork and border accents across the crest rail, back splat, arms, and front seat rail. No clearly legible maker marks or stamps are present on the piece.
