Harvard Oil & Gasoline Can, George Worthington Co - This vintage galvanized steel oil and gasoline dispenser was manufactured by the Schlueter Manufacturing Company of St. Louis, Missouri, as part of their DeLuxe line. It was produced as a private label item for The George Worthington Company of Cleveland, Ohio, under their The Harvard brand name. The cylindrical body features diagonal corrugated strengthening ribs and original red-painted bands at the upper and lower rims. The unit is equipped with a threaded metal screw cap on the domed top and a heavy-gauge wire bail handle with a turned wooden grip. A metal discharge spigot with a thumb-turn valve is integrated into the base. The front of the can retains a large, multi-colored paper lithograph label depicting a yellow banner against a red foliage background. The label identifies the contents and reads THE HARVARD MADE ESPECIALLY FOR THE GEORGE WORTHINGTON CO. CLEVELAND, OHIO. The underside of the can features an embossed circular manufacturer mark. Markings: The base is embossed with S C H L U E T E R M F G C O and S T. L O U I S around the perimeter, with D E L U X E over M A D E I N U . S . A . in the center.
