This is the first print edition of four important historiographical essays: Seder Olam Rabba - An important historical work, written in chronological order from the beginning of creation until the days of Alexander The Great. It is attributed to the Tanna R. Yosi ben Chalafta. Seder Olam is often quoted by Chazal and Midrashim, as well as by many Rishonim as the authoritative source for historical events. Also included is Seder Olam Zuta , a work of similar nature although authored by a Kadmon many generations later. Megillas Taanis - A historical record written by Chazal of various decrees which were annulled, thereby causing great joy. Chazal instituted that it is prohibited to conduct a Taanis on these day, hence the name “Megillas Ta’anis”. Sefer Hakabalah L’Haraavad - An important work authored by R. Avraham Ibn Daud (sometimes referred to as the first Ra’avad), a Spanish scholar who lived in the 12th century. Contains a chronological record of events from the Biblical era until his time when this work was written in about 1160. This work is perhaps most famous for the story of the four captives (the four Geonim), who were taken captive from Babylon and exiled to Spain.
