The Avnet of the Kohen Gadol — The Holy Gartel of the Satmar Rebbe ZYA”A This silk gartel, known among the chassidim as the “Sanz’er Gartel, ” was worn by Maran HaRav of Satmar ZYA”A for many years on Shabbos and Yom Tov at the holy tish. Taken from the Rebbe’s Tish-kaften, this is the very gartel with which the Rebbe conducted his seudos and avodah before thousands .• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • חֲגוֹר חַרְבְּךָ עַל־יָרֵךְ גִּבּוֹר הוֹדְךָ וַהֲדָרֶךָ (תהילים מ״ה:ד׳) This gartel is regarded as a powerful segulah to sweeten harsh dinim and remove machshavos ra’os — aside from the yeshuos inherent in anything that once belonged to a tzaddik. The Gaon Rabbi Chaim Palagi reveals in Refuah V’Chaim (12:60) a remarkable yesod: “The belt of a tzaddik nullifies evil thoughts.” The Rebbe ZYA”A himself spoke openly about the immense koach found in the belongings of tzaddikim and kedoshim. In Parashas Vayetze, 5725, he said: “Objects used by tzaddikim carry tremendous power. Within them lies the ability to give and to take life. The items that descended from the Avos HaKedoshim contained ניצוצות קדושים that served as a source of protection.” And in Parashas Vayigash, 5719, the Rebbe ZYA”A revealed further: “Great tzaddikim were able to sense in objects, in animals, in money — in everything — whether it came from a place of kedushah or not. It was known among the gedolim that they could discern this. An object that belonged to a tzaddik is not stam an object. It carries koach —כרגלי הבעלים...”
