איום קדוש --The Gemara Maseches Shekalim of the Gaon HaKadosh Rabbeinu Nosson Adler ZY”A Maseches Shekalim, with peirush Rashi, Rabbeinu Ovadiah mi’Bartenura, Tosafos Yom Tov, the biurim of R’ Eliyah, and the biur of R’ Yaakov mi’Krakow. Printed in Amsterdam, 1727. On the forzatz leaf before the sha’ar appears an early inscription: “ LaHashem ha’aretz u’melo’ah, shayach lehaTorani ha’mufla u’muflag b’Torah u’v’Chassidus, k’shem tov Mori HaRav R’ Nosson ben R’ Yaakov Shimon Adler Katz ztzal”h…” This is the gaon ha’kadosh ha’Eloki R’ Nosson Adler of Frankfurt d’Main, Rebbe of Maran the Chasam Sofer ZY”A. The form of the inscription indicates that it was likely written in his earlier years. Several additional inscriptions appear in foreign script, among them: NATHAN ADLER. The Hanhagah of R’ Nosson Adler in Parshas Shekalim The opening mishnah of Maseches Shekalim is the well-known: “B’echad b’Adar mashmi’in al ha’shekalim…” L’halachah it is ruled that on the first Shabbos of Chodesh Adar, two sifrei Torah are taken out — one for the parshah of the week and one for Parshas Shekalim. The poskim discuss the case when Parshas Shekalim coincides with Parshas Mishpatim, where it would be easy to use a single Sefer Torah and simply be golel. In Sefer Ha’Eshkol (vol. II, p. 66) the author writes with wonder: “…And I am astonished that in the beis knesses of the gaon R’ Nosson Adler of Frankfurt, according to his minhag, they would not take out for Parshas Shekalim more than a single Sefer Torah…”
