Letter in the Handwriting and with the Signature of the Renowned Gaon Rabbi Nachum Trebitsch, Av Beit Din of Prostějov and Nikolsburg – Sent to the Renowned Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Landau, Av Beit Din of Prague (Son of the Noda BiYehuda) – Prostějov, Kislev 1828 The letter concerns a proposed shidduch that had encountered difficulties. The letter before us is dated “Wednesday, 27 Kislev 1828,” and was sent ”לכבוד מר ידידי הרב הגאון פאר הדור והדרו שמו מפארים סיני ועוקר הרים... מהר”ש לאנדויא ינוב בשיבה טובה דשן ורענן עד ביאת ינון” (At the time of writing the letter, Rabbi Shmuel Landau was seventy-nine years old). The Gaon Rabbi Nachum Trebitsch (1779–1842), Av Beit Din of Nikolsburg and Chief Rabbi of Moravia. He was born in Prague, and until 1826 served as Rosh Yeshiva in his native city. From 1826–1831 he served as Rabbi of Prostějov, and in 1831, he succeeded Rabbi Mordechai Banet as Rabbi of Nikolsburg. He authored several works, including Shalom Yerushalayim on the Talmud Yerushalmi (reconciling apparent contradictions between the Yerushalmi and Bavli), Kovetz Al Yad on Rambam and the Shulchan Aruch, and She’elot U’Teshuvot Rabbi Nachum Trebitsch (Jerusalem Institute, 1989). A few days before his passing, he traveled to Prague, his birthplace, where he suddenly fell ill and passed away, and where he was buried. On his Shalom Yerushalayim, he received an enthusiastic approbation from Rabbeinu the Chasam Sofer, who wrote: חד מיחידי חכימי יהודאי... אשר ידיו רב לו בשני התלמודים בבלי וירושלמי, ומרוב יגיעתו בתורה עם תלמידים פעל ועשה, קבץ ורבץ, טרח ויגע לעשות שלום בין שני התלמודים במקום שנראה כחולקים זה על זה Folded sheet. 25 cm.
