The Gaon Rabbi Ephraim Zalman ben Rabbi Menachem Margolios of Brod (1761–1828) — a Rav among the sages of the kloyz in Brody and author of extensive Torah literature; among the important Poskim of his generation, alongside the Chasam Sofer and Rabbi Akiva Eiger. He initially served as Rav of Ohanov, and later became exceedingly wealthy from commerce, left his rabbinic post, and devoted himself to the constant study of Torah in the kloyz in Brody. He answered Halachic questions sent to him from many communities and wrote many Sefarim that became known throughout the world, including: Beis Ephraim, Sha’ar Ephraim, Mateh Ephraim, Tiv Gittin, and more. In his Sefer L’Ma’alos HaYuchsin he investigated the lineage of the Margolios family back to Rashi and further upward to King David. Half-leather binding. Wormholes. Stains. Fair–good condition.
