The great Gaon Rabbi Chaim Mordechai Raller [Roller] (1868–1947) — Av Beit Din of Târgu Neamț and among the great Halachic authorities of Romania. An extraordinary expert in releasing Agunot, through which he released and assisted thousands of agunot in the First and Second World Wars. Author of Chiddushei Ben Yair and Responsa Be’er Chaim Mordechai. He was a Chassid of the Holy Rabbi Rabbi David Moshe Friedman of Chortkov and of the Holy Rabbi Rabbi Yitzchak Friedman of Bohush. A distinguished Torah scholar to whom no secret was hidden. He headed major rabbinical councils and enacted rulings for the moment and for generations. He passed away after his ascent to the Holy Land in a wondrous manner on Shabbat Kodesh. On Friday, hours before his passing, he managed to contact specifically Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Herzog to release an agunah, saying: “Who knows what the day will bring…” Damaged wrapper binding, damaged spine, incomplete copy with [8] leaves missing, folds and tears especially in the first and last leaves, many uncut leaves, fair condition.
