Printed by the partners, grandsons of the rabbi of Slavuta: the rabbis R. Chanina Lipa and R. Yehoshua Heshel Shapira. The exceptional quality and sanctity of the seforim and Talmud editions printed at the Zhitomir press have long been renowned. The workers at the press conducted themselves with special holiness—engaging in repentance and immersing in the mikveh while occupied with printing sacred seforim in their establishment. They were also entrusted with specific mystical intentions (kavanot) to focus upon during the course of their work. At the head of the printing house stood the righteous members of the Shapira family, famed for their piety and spiritual intentions. It is well known that these special editions were greatly cherished by holy tzaddikim, who guarded them with particular care.
