Arbaa Charashim – First Edition of Tzetel Katan by the Noam Elimelech – Lviv, 1849. Manuscript Additions. - Arbaa Charashim, Chassidic homiletics (on the four Parshiot, Passover Haggadah and more), by Rabbi Aryeh Leib of Lantzut (Lańcut), with ”Holy Practices” by Rebbe Elimelech of Lizhensk ”which he named Tzetel Katan”. [Lviv, 1849]. This is the first edition of Tzetel Katan by Rebbe Elimelech of Lizhensk, the Noam Elimelech, and it ends with the words: ”I found all this in a manuscript”. This composition has since been reprinted in countless editions, and it is a key Chassidic work of guidance in worship of G-d. At the end are two pages of Torah novellae in an early manuscript, including additions in the name of the author and of Rabbi Shmuel Primo. The sefer Arbaa Charashim includes the essay Shabbatot Hashem (second part) by the Rama of Fano and the prayer for the repentant by Rabbenu Yonah. The author, the holy Rabbi Aryeh Leib of Lancut (1757–1826; Encyclopedia of Hasidism, vol. I, p. 328), was one of the leading sages of his generation. Already in his youth, he was recognized for his vast knowledge of the Talmud, halachic authorities, and kabbalistic works. In 1777, at only twenty years old, he was appointed rabbi of Lancut, a position he held for many years until 1819. He was later appointed rabbi of Kishinev. He was among the foremost disciples of the “Seer” of Lublin. He authored several works, including Arba’ah Charashim, Chomat Ariel, and Gevurot Aryeh.
