Chumash Used by the Lubavitcher Rebbe – 18th of Tammuz, 5737 (Monday of Parshat Pinchas) - On Monday, the 18th of Tammuz 5737, during the week of Parshat Pinchas, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, His Honor and Holiness the Admo”r Shlit”a, ascended to the upstairs synagogue at 770 Eastern Parkway for the Torah reading, as was his custom every Monday and Thursday. Ordinarily, a Chumash would be prepared on the Rebbe’s shtender for him to follow along with the Baal Koreh (Torah reader). On this particular day, however, no Chumash had been placed there. Observing this, Rabbi Yaakov promptly went out, purchased a Chumash, and placed it on the shtender for the Rebbe’s use. The Rebbe then entered, listened to the Torah reading, and followed the reading from this very Chumash for the portion of Parshat Pinchas. Upon completion, he set it back down on the shtender, a treasured and unique artifact directly connected to the Rebbe’s weekly participation in Kriat HaTorah. Written on the flyleaf of the Chumash by R' Avraham Yaakov Ginsberg: ” לה”ו His Honor and Holiness the Admo”r Shlit”a - The Lubavitcher Rebbe used this Chumash for Parshat Pinchas on the second day of the week, the 18th Day of Tamuz 5737” Provenance: R' Avraham Yaakov Ginsberg
