Two One Dollar Bills Received from the Holy Hands Lubavitcher Rebbe, on the 14th day of Shvat 5752 - With a blessing of ” May You be blessed with a year of Success” (שנת הצלחה) - The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, led the Chabad-Lubavitch movement from 1951. He is known for his profound wisdom, compassionate leadership, and unwavering dedication to the Jewish people. One of the many ways he sought to uplift and inspire was through the distribution of dollar bills. The tradition of the Rebbe's Sundays began in the 1980s when the Rebbe started giving out one-dollar bills to individuals who came to seek his blessings and advice. The Rebbe saw the dollar bill as a symbol of material prosperity, and by giving it away during these special Sundays, he intended to infuse it with spiritual energy. The recipients of these dollars were encouraged to donate them to charity, thereby transforming the physical currency into a vehicle for positive change and spiritual growth. It was customary for the Lubavitcher Rebbe to give out dollars to his Chassidim and many other men women and children who came to see him on different occasions. The Dollars were usually distributed in relation to Holidays and Significant Days of the Year, on Sundays, and in the Rebbes later years different variations of dollars were given out and included along with the special Kuntreisim that would be distributed in 770. These two one-dollar bills were received on Sunday, the 14th of Shevat, 5752 (January 19, 1992), from the holy hands of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson. On this special occasion, R' Yaakov approached the Rebbe to receive a dollar for charity, and while doing so, he shared with the Rebbe that his birthday would be in just a few days, on the 15th of Shevat – the day of Tu B’Shevat, the New Year for Trees. In response, the Rebbe gave him two dollars and blessed him warmly with the words: “You should have a year of success” (שנת הצלחה). This meaningful encounter combined the Rebbe’s personal attention, birthday blessings, and encouragement of giving to charity, and took place during the final months in which the Rebbe distributed dollars in person.
