An Israeli Lira Coin from the Lubavitcher Rebbe – Distributed for the “Goral” Travel Fund Lottery - This Israeli 1 Lira coin (dated 1967) carries deep historical and spiritual significance, having been personally distributed by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, as part of a charitable initiative known as the “Goral”—a unique lottery system established to assist individuals who wished to travel to the Rebbe but lacked the financial means to do so. To raise funds for these individuals' travel expenses, the Rebbe authorized a special raffle (הגרלה) in which names were drawn, and the winner’s fare would be fully covered. This particular coin was given by the Rebbe to those overseeing the lottery, with the intention that it be passed along to participants and supporters of the initiative—those who donated and enabled others to fulfill their heartfelt wish of visiting the Rebbe. This coin was one of those original tokens of gratitude, given by the Rebbe himself, and then presented to a donor who joined in the mitzvah (“משתתף”) of supporting the travel fund. The coin is encased in a protective hard plastic display, accompanied by a handwritten note identifying its sacred origin, purpose, and the year it was received—1975.
