Recto of title page with a lengthy ownership inscription: ”The distinguished and exceptional young scholar, the esteemed and famous genius, renowned for praise, a comprehensive sage, the light of Israel, the right-hand pillar, the strong hammer, his fame spreads across all the islands of the sea and the distant lands, sharp and knowledgeable, pure and clear, the great and honorable Rabbi Shmuel Katz from Warsaw, who for the time being has pitched his tent and resides here in the holy community of Kempen and its surroundings, may it be established forever. Here, the light of his Torah shines, and he imparts his elevated wisdom to everyone, young and old, who comes to seek refuge under the wings of his piety and to learn the proper methods of shechita.” We have not found any record of a prominent rabbi named Rabbi Shmuel Katz from Warsaw who served in Kempen and was also a shochet..... It seems that one of his friends exaggerated his virtues. [4], 116 leaves. 20.5 cm. Stefansky, Sifrei Yesod, No. 491.
