The Author: Rabbi [Moshe] Yosef Mordechai Meyuchas (1698–1806), known as the Rishon LeZion (Sephardic Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem), Son of Rishon LeZion Rabbi Raphael Meyuchas. Son-in-law of Rishon LeZion Rabbi Yom Tov Algazi. One of the leading sages of Jerusalem, and a study partner of the Chida (Rabbi Chaim Yosef David Azulai) in the renowned Beit El Kabbalistic Yeshiva. In 1761, he became head of the Knesset Yisrael yeshiva. In 1794, he was appointed as a rabbinic emissary (shadar) to Egypt and India. From 1802, he served as Rishon LeZion. He authored numerous halachic works as well as historical writings on the sages of Israel.
