A Large Hungarian Chevra Kadisha Tin Charity Container, Baia, Circa 1900
Square shaped main body with a domed lid and a funneled shoot at top to insert coins into the container with an oval formed pail handle with tin wrapped around it for grip . A latch applied on its side for the placement of a lock on the container
On one side are the initials ".צ.ת.מ" which stand for "Tzedakah Tatzil Memavet", "Charity saves one from death" in Hebrew.
On the revers side are the initials and word "ח.ק. באיא" which stand for the city of Baia in Hungary where the charity box is from and Chevra Kadisha, the Sacred Society in Hebrew of which the alms were collected for.
Good condition, has a bit of rusting and some dents on the inner and outer body.
