HELLENISTIC TERRACOTTA STATUETTE OF ASTARTE - Ca. 300 - 100 BC A Hellenistic terracotta statuette of a standing Astarte. Astarte was the Phoenician goddess invoked for fertility and rain and was worshipped as a sky goddess who ruled over the celestial realm. The goddess is draped in a lengthy, hooded robe that cascades down her slender body as she stands atop an integral pedestal. Traces of ancient pigment additionally adorn the surface of this elegant figure. Size: 200mm x 50mm; Weight: 285g Provenance: Private old English collection formed in the 1990s.
