WESTERN ASIATIC BRONZE BATTLE AXE WITH OPEN MOUTH LION
Ca. 1200 - 900 BC A Western Asiatic bronze axe-head with an imposing vertical blade edge extending from a lengthy neck embellished with an open mouth lion. The cylindrical socketing shaft is adorned with four nubbin spikes, possibly intended for use as a secondary striking head. The surfaces display layers of naturally-occurring patina in shades of brown and green. For Similar see: The British Museum, Museum Number 130676.
