BYZANTINE GLASS CUP DECORATED WITH INSCRIPTION
Ca. AD 300 - 400.
An early Byzantine glass cup with a decorated cylindrical body, depicting on the main register an inscription with greek characters. The bottom is adorned with a moulded geometric motif and the top bears a very fine vertical rim. For similar see: Christie's, Live Auction 13850, Antiquities, Lot. 241.
Size: 75mm x 70mm; Weight: 65g
Provenance: Property of a central London art gallery; previously in the private collection of Mr. R. Unger; acquired in the 1970s on the UK art market. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
