An Antique English Chinoiserie Blue & White Delft, 18th cen. - With a lid painted with a palace and sampan boat carrying figures, featuring a geometrical and floral design on the lid and on both sides. Late 18 cen., probably London. Provenance: Collection of Edward Hyers Clayton (1886-1946). American writer and missioner. E.H. Clayton and his wife were missionaries of the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society in charge of Wayland Academy, a missionary school in Hangzhou, China from 1912 to 1942. E.H. Clayton wrote a book Heaven Below based on his living experience in China.
