LATIN AMERICAN SOCIAL PHOTO BY SEBASTIAO SALGADO - A black and white photograph, titled In the Very High Areas of Ecuador, People Sometimes Wear Sheepskins to Protect Themselves from the Cold and the Humidity, Atillo, Ecuador. It was captured in 1982 by the world renowned Brazilian social documentary photographer Sebastiao Salgado. This particular photograph belongs to Salgados seminal seven year project and book, Other Americas, which documented peasant life and indigenous communities across Latin America. The photograph was part of the exhibition titled, The Legacy of W. Eugene Smith: Twelve Photographers in the Humanistic Tradition from November 22, 1991 to January 19, 1992 at the ICP Midtown branch in New York City. The picture was taken by world renowned Brazilian social documentary photographer Sebastiao Salgado. He is marked as the 1982 Winner of the prestigious W. Eugene Smith Grant for Humanitarian Photography. Marked with copyright 1982, on the backside.
