ANTIQUE KOREAN JOSEON SCROLL PAINTING SIGNED MA GUN HU - A large antique Korean Joseon Dynasty hanging scroll painting, ca. the 18th century, depicts a charming scene of a mother dog and her puppy rendered in ink and light pigments on a neutral ground. Signed Ma Gun-hu. The central composition features a seated black-and-white dog with wide, expressive eyes, while a small puppy rests playfully on her back beneath stylized foliage. The work is signed in the lower right corner and is mounted on a traditional dark silk border with a wooden roller at the base. This piece exemplifies the Yeongmohwa genre of Korean animal painting, characterized by its whimsical and endearing portrayal of domestic animals. Additionally inscribed on the back side. The handwritten note confirms that the artist is Ma Gun-hu from Joseon Dynasty. He used the pen name Yangchon. On the reverse is likely a faint seal impression.
