ANTIQUE 19TH C RUSSIAN SILVER ICON MOTHER OF GOD OF KAZAN - An antique 19th century Russian icon depicts the Mother of God of Kazan, featuring finely rendered visages and hands painted upon a traditional wood panel. The icon is fitted with chased silver oklad, or riza. Marked with the 84 Russian silver standard mark along with makers hallmarks. The silverwork exhibits intricate foliate borders and a textured ground, designed to protect and embellish the sacred image. The reverse is finished with a dark textile covering, and the lot includes a separate, pierced silver halo designed for the central figures.
