FRENCH PSYCHE BRONZE SCULPTURE AFTER CARRIER BELLEUSE - A patinated bronze sculpture, Psyche, after the original sculpture by the outstanding 19th century French sculptor Albert Ernest Carrier Belleuse, 1824 to 1887. The sculpture depicts the mythological heroine Psyche in a moment of contemplation. She is depicted as a young winged woman, gracefully holding a drapery and pouring liquid into a small bowl. Signed with casting, A. Carrier, on the sculpture. Mounted on a stand. Albert Ernest Carrier Belleuse was one of the most prolific artists of his century and enjoyed the greatest success during the Second Empire, benefiting from the personal support of Napoleon III. He gave new life to classical French sculpture, as demonstrated here by his ability to adapt, capable of mixing neoclassical tradition, romanticism and the scent of orientalism.
