Yuri Tchary (Yurii Charyshnikov) was born on 4 January 1947 in Lviv. In 1971 he graduated from the Ivan Fedorov Lviv Polygraphic Institute (now the Ukrainian Academy of Printing) – the world – renowned graphic artist, illustrator and painter. One of the most amazing pages of Yurii Charyshnikov's works is a lithographic interpretation of the works of N.V. Gogol, i.e. the book "N.V. Gogol. Petersburg Tales” published in 2008, which became a sensation at the International Book Fair. In 1991, Yurii Charyshnikov moved to the United States with his family. In 1990 – 2020th, he exhibited his works mainly in museums in New York and New Jersey, as well as in Kyiv (2003) and Lviv (2010). He lectured on composition and illustrated books. His works have been published in the New York Times, as well as in many other American and European publications. His works have been exhibited at 11 solo and 45 group exhibitions in 20 countries around the world. The artist's works are in the collections: National Art Museum of Ukraine, Kyiv, Ukraine; National Museum in Lviv named after Andrey Sheptytsky, Lviv, Ukraine; Borys Voznytsky Lviv National Art Gallery, Lviv, Ukraine; Museum of Contemporary Art of Ukraine, Kyiv, Ukraine; Koehl Museum of Contemporary Art, Germany, as well as in numerous museum and private collections in different countries.
Yuri Tchary died in Paterson, NJ on August 7, 2022.
