CHINESE ILLUSTRATION PRINTS FOR LA FONTAINES FABLES
A collection of three color prints on paper depicting Chinese rural scenes, illustrations for a unique set of a leaf edition of La Fontaines works, illustrated by artists from around the world, between 1828 and 1840. The collection includes illustrations for fables, La mort et le Bucheron, Death and the Woodcutter; Contre ceux qui ont le gout difficile, Against those with difficult tastes; La cigale et la fourm, The Cicada and the Ant. Each is inscribed in the print, lower right. All are framed. Jean de La Fontaine, French, 1621 to 1695, was a French fabulist and one of the most widely read French poets of the 17th century.
