Signed lower right. Titled lower left. Alexey Kharlampievich Novakovsky was a Ukrainian painter and teacher. From 1913 he lived in Lvov, where he moved with the help of Uniate Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytsky. Already in 1913 he founded an art school in Lviv, which became a noticeable phenomenon of artistic culture in Galicia. A number of artists studied there. Novakovskys first Lviv personal exhibition, held in 1921, was warmly received by Polish critics, who found in the artist a Ukrainian epigone of the Krakow school.
