MODERN SERBIAN FOLK ART OIL PAINTING BY MARTIN JONAS - Martin Jonas, Yugoslavian, Serbian, 1924 to 1996, oil painting on canvas depicting a rural scene with a woman, 1967. Signed and dated, lower right. Framed. Additionally inscribed and stamped, on the backside. He was born in Kovacica, Serbia, formerly Yugoslavia. Self taught artist who started painting as a child. In 1944 he began his artistic career as a painter; a theater set decorator and a writer for the pin up newspaper Bojovnik; during World War II, joined the partisans. 1951 Jointed the Kovacica School of Naive art ; co founder of the arts and ethnic section of the Cultural and Educational Society of Pokrok, Serbia. In 1955 he participated in establishing of a farmer painter gallery in Kovacica, Serbia. One of a kind artwork. Dimensions Frame 22 1/2 x 12 1/8 in. Canvas 21 x 10 1/2 in. All measurements are approximate. Condition Overall good vintage condition. Signs of wear and age. Slight stains in paint. Has creases in canvas. Some scuffs and chips in frame. Refer to photos.
