Jamini Gangooly is known for Realist portraiture, oil painting, and landscapes. Jamini Prokash Gangooly was a painter from India who was part of the extended Tagore family. He received training in realist portraiture, oil painting, and landscapes under British painter Charles Palmer. Gangooly was skilled in various genres but was particularly drawn to painting landscapes, especially sunrises and sunsets. He combined the imagery of his hometown of Bengal with European naturalistic methods in his paintings. He received awards both locally and internationally for his work.
