JAPANESE WOOD BBLOCK PRINT BY KUNIYOSHI UTAGAWA - Kuniyoshi Utagawa, Japanese, 1798 to 1861, woodblock print on paper, Nakamura Kansuke Tadatoki, from the series Stories of the True Loyalty of the Faithful Samurai, Seichu Gishi Den. Signed and inscribed with Calligraphy, upper right and lower left. Framed. Completed with original paper labels of the Uchida Art Co., Ltd., on the backside. Utagawa Kuniyoshi was one of the last great masters of the Japanese ukiyo e style of woodblock prints and painting. He was a member of the Utagawa school. The range of Kuniyoshis subjects included many genres: landscapes, beautiful women, Kabuki actors, cats, and mythical animals. He is known for depictions of the battles of legendary samurai heroes.
