19TH CENTURY RUSSIAN ALL HYMNED MOTHER OF GOD ICON - An antique 19th century Russian Orthodox icon of O All Hymned Mother of God. Mixed media painting: egg tempera, gesso, and levkas on a wood board. The Mother of God wears a crown, and clasps Her child to Her breast with both hands. Christ is held in Her left arm, and rests on Her left shoulder. He is facing Her, and both of His hands are placed below Her neck. Instead of the usual stars on Her head and shoulders, the faces of angels appear in three circles. Titled in Church Slavonic, in the upper part. Russian Icon Painting, Orthodox Religious Items and Collectibles. Dimensions 10 1/2 x 9 in. All measurements are approximate.
